Overview of Recycled Plastics

With global carbon reduction initiatives, recycled plastics have become an essential part of the circular economy. Using recovered plastics reduces CO₂ emissions, lowers pollutant discharge, and supports carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. 

Twin-screw extruders play a central role in recycling processes. They not only convert irregular recycled plastics into uniform pellets, but also enhance material properties. They can also facilitate chemical depolymerization (hydrolysis, alcoholysis, etc.) to recover monomers for further use.

Applications:

1. Engineering Plastics Recycling

  • Household appliances and automotive plastics can be processed via single-screw extruder with dual-plate filtration and twin-screw extruder with continuous filtration.
  • Additives can be incorporated in the twin-screw section to improve pellet quality or performance.

2. Polyolefin Recycling (PP & PE)

  • Buckets, bottles, and containers are shredded, filtered, and pelletized.
  • Twin-screw extruder enables performance modification and quality enhancement during recycling.

3. PET Recycling (Beverage Bottles)

  • Cleaned PET flakes are homogenized and fed into the twin-screw extruder.
  • Multi-stage vacuum degassing removes moisture rapidly, producing low-viscosity, high-quality PET pellets or sheets.
  • The process accommodates 100% recycled content for APET, PETG, and high-temperature CPET.
